>>55290079I have mixed feelings on that, i find that the base game has an extremely boring story mode with a couple good characters sprinkled in, the locations are mixed, some great some boring, and as a whole experience i think it evens out to be a strait across the plate type of pokemon game. I think if dexcut never happened it would be regarded as completely fine, just a passable nice game, worth it if you can get it used for cheap and i think playing both it and arceus really puts the advances and miss steps in sv in a clearer picture.
That being said, i genuinely think the two dlc areas are some of the best mainline pokemon content. The maps are so damn good, they perfectly hit the balance between the gen 5 and earlier top down style maps with the bigger options available in 3d and the characters in both are super fun.
So it comes at a weird recommendation, i would say the base game is fine, but not worth going out of your way for, and if you do intend to get it youd be missing the best part without the dlc which sucks.
I hope thats helpful at all, for context i boycotted swsh on release and didnt finally cave until sv was announced and i started getting the craving, and i saw that by that point swsh did huge numbers so a boycott was a completely useless effort. I played the base on e and was disappointed, then reset and played it again, figured fuck it and bought the dlc and loved it. Then i reset a third time to play it with dlc and really like it. If you do isle of armour the second it unlocks which is very early on, it slots in perfectly to the story. Then you leave isle after you get kubfu, come back around lvl 35-40 and finish the isle and it makes a perfect transition. Then tundra is after the main game and is one of my favourite bits of mainline pokemon.
