It was already fixed with an evolution, what it needs are a good move and a good ability to be usable. Not good, not great, but usable in a way that makes it fun.

Stats aren't what's been powercreeped over time, it's the moves, signature moves and signature abilities that are fucking busted.

Gen 1 started with:
>150 base power
>90 accuracy
>5PP
>skip your next turn
>every fully-evolved pokemon can use it, so it's equally accessible

And as of gen 9 we're putting up with:
>140 base power
>bypasses accuracy checks
>ignores attack decreases
>ignores defense increases
>10PP
>no other downside
>only available on one starter
>can be powered up further by Terrastalize
And this is exclusive to a pokemon which can also change its type if it wants to.

Onyx needs to loose Weak Armour for Simple and give it Coil.
If its stats get rebalanced tho:

That way it can go Rock polish+Rock head Headsmash abuser or Coil+Simple set up sweeper.

modeled on Scyther/Scizor evo. More statistical bulk than Steelix w/Eviolite, but you lose the better typing and Leftovers slot. Better speed makes boosting or support sets a bit more viable.

If you haven’t noticed, most of the competitive Pokemon you see in VGC are sub legendaries or mons you get mid to late game. They probably keep VGC in the back of their mind when buffing or giving evolutions to certain Pokemon

I love this meme of factoring in crits and STAB to the base power of a move but it's even funnier here when you're just blatantly doing it for one move but not the other.
Hyper beam in gen 1 used by Tauros is 225 base power with 21% chance chance for 450 power xD
Also it doesn't skip your turn if you KO

Okay, it still has the POTENTIAL drawback of skipping your turn if you don't KO, which the other move doesn't. The point, which you either missed or deliberately misunderstood, was that one move has a built-in downside to (try to) balance it and the other doesn't.

If I were GF, I wouldn’t do too much stat tweaking, but I’d buff set up teams a bit more. Maybe give more Pokemon Follow Me and Friend Guard together. Or maybe a Friend Guard equivalent for moves like Haze and Intimidate.

Your math is wrong. It's only close to 140 if you factor in stab.
70*1.5=105, Flower trick has 105 base power with the crit. With STAB included its 70*1.5*1.5=157.5
