I've been thinking about early games in regions for a couple of minutes, and I'm realizing that the section in DPPt between starting and hearthhome is actually incredibly solid, and may be my favorite early section in pokemon as a whole. Sinnoh really falls off between hearthhome and veilstone desu, nobody goes to pastoria first
