it doesn't need to be realistic to look beautiful. even old versions of minecraft look much more pleasant than world of paldea simply because notch actually put care when he designed it. meanwhile gamefreak were not even bothered to implement procedural textures, it's just the same pattern over and over

Because it's higher res, it's still a miss mash of literal Lego blocks.
Artstyle is a cope, if your textures are low rest, the lighting is off and the poly count is low your game will look like shit.

Everyone saying open world is the reason is retarded. The reason is that Galar feels like Britain, while Palde feels like the bastard child of Japan and Mexico. There's nothing intrinsically Spanish-feeling about Paldea outside of Alfornada, and thats one of the last places in the game.

It's weird how going open world somehow means they can't do puzzles anymore, Zelda had the same thing happen where the proper puzzles where put in enclosed enviroments (shrines) hidden away from that open world.

The closest thing to a puzzle in SV is how you get Meloetta, and frankly you'd need to look the solution up to even figure that out.
