If you just want to make a cute player character, then swsh is good for that. That's pretty much the only thing swsh has over literally any other game in the series.

SwSh and SV are worth getting immediately upon release mainly because of the raid multiplayer gameplay supplement. If you're at all interested in the multiplayer experience, then you'll want to get the game when the maximum number of people are playing it. If you don't care about that, then you'll be fine.
