I will always remember the times when there were main trainer games but also side games like PMD and Rangers, and they were connected through stuff like the Manaphy eggs.
Events distributed at shops were also soul.
The fact that some pokemon couldn’t be obtained without doing stuff outside of the game itself made them rare and hype. The fact that they had in game events that only a few people ever got to experience too.
I’m so glad to have been one of the people who got the regis in Platinum, the Giratina egg in HGSS (because yea who would pick anything but Giratina I mean come on), Zorua and Zoroark in BW, etc

I wasn't around for those, I was 10 when X and Y came out. I do remember during Gen 7 (I think) they had that monthly mythical/legendary giveaway codes at Gamestop. There was one for each month.

What was your first Pokemon game? Mine was White 2, I got it for my 10th birthday. I remember immediately going to my room and getting my DSI. The only outlet was by the bedroom door, so I layed there and played it for about 6 hours straight. I remember I didn't know much about Pokemon then, as I had only just gotten into it. I only used my Tepig and swept through the entire game.

Unironically the background details about the "lore" and history of the world. I know most of it is copium that will lead nowhere nowadays, but it's still fun to pretend like it's all connected by filling in the gaps.

Diamond, i got my DS in late 2007 for my brother’s birthday, I was also 10. By coincidence DP came out in France around the same time so when my brother and I looked for one game each to get on our DSes he picked a Simpsons game (the simpsons movie had come out earlier that year) and I picked Diamond because even though I knew next to nothing about pokemon I knew it was a cool thing

I know my parents never let me get into it before because they thought it was demonic, but they didn't really know anything about it. After I explained it to them they were fine with it. I remember my first Pokemon card was a Tentacruel someone at school at given me.

I went to a Christian school and all, strict parents, to this day they think it is evil but still let my brother and I play. I had a friend have me hold their cart because their mom banned it, and he'd play at school or at my house.

The same Christian extremist types ended up saying Bionicle was evil too and a friend gave me all his Bionicles, thank God my parents didn't fall for that one. To this day my mom thinks Pokemon and anything Japanese/anime related is evil, often citing her brother who went to Japan in the 80s and came back kinda-buddist. Once when I got in trouble for 4chan stuff and had the police come over (caught doing the /b/ raid prank calling GameStop) my parents went to 4chan clicking on random boards. I was safe when they clicked /ck/ and /po/ and other blues, but then they randomly clicked /d/ and I knew it was over. Now that they know of the perversion that takes cartoon form they consider all anime to be evil. Father refers to Japan as a "nation of island perverts", he says Koreans are the only good Asians (because of our military relations they are our greatest ally in the east, Japs are allies too but they are perverts and did Pearl Harbor).
