Do you like kaijus? Boom: Tyranitar, Aggron and Nidoking
Do you like cutemons? You have all the babymons from gen 2 and 4
Are you a wanker? Gardevoir is over there
Furry? Lopunny and Salazzle
A normie? Pikachu, Charizard, and Vaporeon
And that's not getting into specifics. Pokémon became like IGN: there's something for everyone.
But if I were part of the dev team, I would've picked other franchises to "inspire" myself. Digimon has cool cyborg monsters, and they can use guns. Using yokaiis or demons for Dark/Beast types can be excused (looking at you, "Anubis". You could've used Lucario, yes, but more Pascal/Cerberus would've been cooler), and maybe Yugioh for the characters. Their designs are really radical (I mean the characters, not the cards, but maybe the Paldeck could have funny card-stylized descriptons).
All I'm saying is that there's a lot of "inspiration" outside.
