Shit changes, and because it's change for the sake of change to keep this ship afloat in ocean of ever-changing trends, it changes for worse.
Pokemon is not a trend-setter anymore, nor it's a franchise that can exist in its own bubble, sustained by stale but loyal fanbase. Gamefreak since gen VI-VII is chasing trends and playing second fiddle to everything.
Look how SM was directly affected by YKW small rise in popularity.
Or how after success of BoTW and infestation of open-world action games GF decided to force open world into their titles.
Or how drastically their stance on DLCs and Pokemon availability changed when they realized that everyone is shitting out incomplete products just to ask for more money for DLCs.
People are shitting on Palworld, but reality is that it's success and popularity of survival games as a whole sent to GF pretty fucking clear message and they are fucking FRANTIC to adjust gen X titles to it.
