I used to think that if Pokemon got hit while they were asleep, that they would wake up earlier. So whenever my Pokemon got put to sleep, I would keep it in and hoped that it would get hit hard enough to wake up sooner.

That when an opponent used growl my attack stat permanently dropped by 1. Status moves used to make me sad until I realized it was only temporary. Took a few months for toddler me to realize

I used to think physical/special split was a thing before the split existed, and it was all just based on my gut feeling of what move was physical or special. When they started showing what was physical or special I thought they were just clarifying what was already in the game.

I thought Psychic was effective against Rock, probably just because lifting rocks with your mind is a popular trope and Rocks usually have weak Sp Def opposed to the high Sp Atk.

I used to be terrified of the poison status condition to the point where I'd start a new game if a single one of my pokemon got the status. I don't know why but I guess I thought the poison would kill them.

Exp. Share gives the same amount of experience to the Pokemon holding it,.. so if the Pokemon in the battle held it it would gain double experience. I believed this as an adult.

The Gen 1 Pokédex type distribution really affected my idea of some type matchups

Also more generally, I used to think all types were weak against themselves, and that they all resisted the types they were super effective against, for example I assumed Water types would resist Ground attacks because Water is super effective against Ground.
