Generations have been approximately three years in length since Gen 6 began the uniform simultaneous worldwide release schedule.
Theoretically, Gen 9 will end in the fall of 2025.
However, a new console is certainly imminent and very likely to launch by 2025.
This could impact how game development and releases go.
Along with this, the 30th anniversary is February of 2026. The 25th anniversary was in the middle of a generation, but the 20th anniversary started a new generation. Plus, the next generation is going to be Gen 10, which is an equally significant milestone. Timing a new Generation released that year would generate a lot of buzz.
But if Generation 10 occurs in 2026, that means Gen 9 will be four years in length.
Now, you could argue and shitpost all day about “patternfagging” and the like, but I think it’s worth discussing earnestly. What do you think Gamefreak and TPC will do about Gen 9, Gen 10 and the Switch’s inevitable successor?
