Since people are extra critical of the Gen 2 Pokémon now, pokemon that were merely ignored became outright hated.
Ironically, there's a bit of a backlash against that Gen 2 backlash since now enough older Gen 2 fans are giving their thoughts, and newer fans are being exposed to Gen 2 related things now due to Game Freaks giving attention so a decent amount of Gen 2 Pokeon for some reason. And in the case of Sunflora specifically
