Aurora Beam is just another example of how stat lowering can be used for more creative things than just making the next use of the same attack stronger, just like Shadow Ball. Gen 2 also fucked up when they nerfed Aurora Beam, Constrict etc. when they lowered their side effect chance from 33% to 10%.
