The first movie stands alone as actually being a good movie, not just a good pokemon movie, with 2 and 3 being a level above the others due mostly to visuals, and the others holding a relatively close bound window of quality. Maybe Lucario was a bit of a dip, but not too much.
Temple of the Sea was the first one that felt like they made a movie out of obligation, because Kyogre hadn't gotten a movie (and still basically wasn't in this one), and they needed to shill the next spinoff game. Darkrai pulled up a bit back to that quality, albiet by making the plot a Godzilla movie, and after that it was all downhill. After Darkrai, the movies stopped feeling like movies made that had pokemon in them, and felt more like shitty advertisements that had a plot stapled in to justify them. Which, to be clear, the movies always were, just now with less pretense. Hoopa is, to me, the absolute worst one, because it's genuinely a better experience if you tune it out and just passively watch the big stupid monsters fight while you're doing something else.
Kyurem's is pretty ghoulish, too. Actually fuck it, I hate that one most. Not even tuning it out saves it.
