Why do so many Johto teams looks like this? Starter+Ampharos+Heracross+Gyarados+Eeveelutions+KANTOOO

How come they never use something like Houndoom or Sneasel?

They give you a shiny one as part of the story. It's special, and it's really good mon. No reason not to use it, plus it surfs.

Mareep comes pretty early and it's an electric type, which is nice to have

You get a free eevee, it's cute, and you can make it fit into any team you need.

Ehhh. Scyther would probably be more common. The bug catching contest is a lot simpler to do that grinding time headbutting. Getting Heracross is going out of your way.

The fuck do you mean by that. That's 3/5 of all pokemon. That's such a broad area that it's not worth being one.

Sneasel was worse than worthless until the physical/special split, and just to rub salt in it’s worthless little wound, it received a far superior evolution the same generation.

I never used an Ampharos on my Johto teams until /vp/ memed it so hard, did not understand the hype after finally doing it. As for Heracross, I used that once back in the day but generally preferred Scizor.

Most people don't care about using a special snowflake team to get based points from other manchildren, they use what's easily available and fits well enough on their team, which is the starter, Ampharos, and KANTOOOOO. Sinnoh has the same problem, but most of the new common mons like Staraptor are actually good.

Also what is there to do for 37+ hours before Lance? Exploring everything and doing all the side content available doesn't take that long.

Johto mon distribution sucked. If they put Teddiursa, Phanpy and Houndour in the first half of the game it would be a big improvement straight away.
