Anyway, open world sucks because there's no sense of progression. Sure, I can skip ahead to do the harder battles first, but then that just makes the earliest battles easier. I was overleveled at the first gym without even trying. This game needed level scaling or something.

Third stage and anything that isn't a level up should never be catchable in the wild, because it makes them feel actually special and earned. Yeah, there were rare cases in earlier gens, but they were rare, not the fucking standard, and not in the same area where you catch the first stage for the first time.
