The rival in LG P/E is also extremely underwhelming, he is the most generic version of the friendly rival archetype and they replaced a legitimately good rival for him. I'm also not a fan of the stripped back mechanics, especially because part of increasing stats involves candies and that wasn't something I liked delving into.
I don't hate it, in fact I don't hate any of the main series games except for BW and Legends Arceus. But LG P/E is a game I have yet to even finish because it's just Kanto again and I thoroughly enjoyed FRLG but this adventure wasn't grabbing me the same way.
