Now two actually rewarding locations are the sunken ship which you literally see when you take that ride at the beginning, completely spoonfeeding it and ruining the surprise, and the abandoned power plant which is ALSO spoonfed by a gym leader telling you to go there.
Meanwhile Sinnoh has a lot of optional cave areas that are rewarding and not spoonfed. Hell, one of the rewards you with flash, which then allows you to explore ANOTHER optional area and help a NPC to unlock her as a partner for the battle tower.
DP and especially Platinum lacked in the "legendaries that reward exploration" department but they more than make up for it by still having nice rewards for exploration
