If you think that is bad, look at the RS version and the Silver version. Weezing because of being a mutant tumor gas ball thing varies wildly in how the parts are arranged.

Gen 4 sprites are weird. They nailed the look for pretty much everything in DP, they really shouldn't have tried to "improve" them in Platinum or HGSS.

Is there even a single gen 4 sprite that Plat or HGSS actually improved over DP?

With a Pokemon like Weezing, which is a fucked-up-looking mutated sack-a-tumors of a monster, I'm more willing to overlook some depictions looking different from others. I dunno if this is just the ultimate form of contrarianism but as I've gotten older the more I've appreciated some of the Red and Blue sprites over what the same Pokemon would get later.
I think they had more personality.

Small change and the original isn't even bad but the HGSS Dodrio sprite is way more dynamic and shows off the idea of the different heads having different personalities better.

Left drawing is better than right drawing. His head being noticably distinct from his body breaks up the silhouette too much. His body being one straight line gives him more character, otherwise he is just some generic badger.

Heartgold has many terrible sprites.
Pic related is HGSS on top and gen 4 beta on the bottom. 4 beta is rough, but it's so much better.

RGB sprites are "so bad it's good" to me but there are a few that have elements I appreciate that got dropped pretty quickly.

RGB Golem is one for me, I think the head is better, like it's got a little googly-eyed gecko head. Giving it a dinosaur head was a downgrade imo.

HGSS Sneasel isn't bad, but man is it boring compared to DP and PT.
Also I loved how they could never get its colors right. This mon has probably had more pallet changes than any other.
