In the anime special based on the game the marowak was shown to die accidentally from a stun baton used by team rocket whiel they were poaching, nothing gory.
Pokemon death is okay if it's meaningful. Pokemon is supposed to be about empathy. The edgy shit stands out and offends us for a reason, it's pointless and meant to offend.
