It is better than Butterfree stats wise, but Butterfree shows up earlier and is in Ash's team in the show. Same issue Dodrio has.

The different Lycanroc varieties. It was a shitty gimmick
Pretty much every "pika clone" that isn't the original, Emolga, or Mimikyu if you count Mimikyu as a pika clone
Chingling. Who the fuck asked for Chingling? Most baby pokemon really, but especially Chingling.
Illumise and Volbeat.
Farfetch'd.
Aipom, especially in gen 2-3.

Chingling makes sense if you think about how Chimecho was in Gen 3 of extremely rare. Even in Gen 4 it was late game, just was not very good at battles.
SV dogs I don't know what should be done with. Eliminate the fairy since it doesn't matter and make Mabostiff and Houndstone outright counterparts?

Should have set it up as a divergent evolution imo.
Make one base form and then have it evolve into one of the three depending on what you do with it. That way you cut down from 6 to 4 mons and it makes it a lot more interesting

Like half of gen 5 is dex filler, I liked that gen 3 and 4 added mons that had a niche aside from a couple that were filler, but gen 5 turned into pretty much all filler once they brought the old mons back into the main game

I wonder if originally Lycanroc was going to actually werewolf by changing appearance depending on the time of day, but they they realized it would be an issue for multiplayer and just split evolution between the versions.

I wonder what the breakdown is exactly between lightly changed animal, element animal, mythical creatures, and plants/objects given animal features. Lots of ambiguous cases though. Like if Hitmonlee is considered a mythical animal.

A few gen one pokemon have that problem.

>venonat evolves at level 31, only has 480 bst
it should have 500-510 minimum for evolving at that level

goldeen evolves at 33 and seaking only has 450 bst, unusable

I've always loved venomoth though, my favorite poison type.

I distinctly remember the first time I saw Venonat and Venomoth being when Kids WB aired the episode where Ash battles Koga for the first time. Being that these were brand new Pokémon to me, that's what they feel like to me. I like spotting them out in the wild.Very classic feeling monsters to me.

Single stage mons are great when they have a gimmick to them. They just need to stop being pussies and give some of them proper stat & moveset buffs. Or maybe in the case of Absol & Mawile, just give them their Mega Evos back
