It flew to the lighthouse lab because that was the last place where it was truly happy. It lived there together with the prof and Arven, before the alpha Raidon made it its bitch in Area Zero.
Speaking of Arven, the whole sandwich shit? That's his doing. It loves sandwiches cause he fed them to it all those years ago. That's why is pops out of its ball when he mentions the word - it never heard the word in our presence so it already knew what it meant before we met it.
Also the reason why we meet the professor at the lake after catching Terapagos is probably because of the Raidon. It missed Turo/Sada so badly that it wanted to see them again. You can see how much it loved them because it's truly sad when they have to leave again.
Do they have a particularly deep personality? No. But it's way more than what you claim.
