So what is the deal with purple Kekleon? Appears in both the show and Mystery Dungeon, but not the main games. Was it originally going to actually change colors when hit, but then got scrapped?

Much like how Vaporeon change to a white color when inseminated by human semen, Kekleon may sometimes change it's color to a matte purple. Do not worry, the Kekleon is not sick, it merely does this as a voluntary display to other humans that the Kekleon is currently occupied. Attentive humans will pick up on this signal and attempt to find a fresh green Kekleon, to not cause a dispute.

Shinies already exist. It's not a bad idea creating other kind of shinies.
More creativity made the anime better in the first season.
