They want everyone to be VGC players. If there are different ways to be a hardcore Pokémon player then there's less VGC players. They don't see anything else as legitimate even trying to complete a gen 3 living dex is "casual to them". Imagine you're trying to make as many Eevees Jolteons as possible. You wouldn't evolution methods for different forms to be discovered.
