There's literally different dialogue options you can select and NPCs say different things sometimes depending on what you select. He has conversations with the MC and isn't just talking against them.

Plus the design draws parallels to his parents with the slicked back "hair" and all. It's a logical choice of Pokémon to symbolise that he's been pretty much raised by it instead of his parent.
>without much interfacing from other characters.You get plenty of interactions with other characters. Mostly Nemona and Penny at the end of the game (and the Epilogue), but also some others like some of the teachers, Clavell and a little bit with the Kitakami siblings, of course.
His character gets explored plenty, although a lot of it is only implied due to the grim nature of his backstory. But his jealous personality is definitely a result of being a child neglect victim, which might not be obvious if you don't think about it much.
