2. the only reason these games existed was to see Pokemon battles in 3D, kinda pointless when the mainline games are 3D now.

aside from the campaigns in the shadow pokemon duology, the whole point of these games was to see your pokemon battle in 3D.

The backlash would be huge.
If you wanted to stand a chance in competitive play you'd need to have two different mainline games (potentially three for edge cases that have been in neither SS or SV) on top of the battle simulator that lets you use all of them at once.

By the time gen 5 was being developed Game Freak had to have known about the 3DS and was planning to move the series to 3D in the next gen, thus negating the need for a future 3D battle simulator. Gen 6 is responsible.

what if you have no friends that own Sword or Shield?
What if your build doesn't work and you need to raise another of that mon?
Obviously you can just inject but Game Freak wants you to do it legit, so no way they'd get away with having a game that expects you to buy 2 other games.

wasn't one of the excuses of the removal of the NatDex for "balancing" reasons?
My reply was very tongue in cheek but I agree. It's just funny how they were able to do Stadium/Stadium 2/Colosseum+XD/Battle Revolution for Gen 1-4 but for Sword and Shield they can't even put all the Pokémon without another spin-off that needs developing

Even in the worst case scenario in prior gens all you needed was someone to trade you the mon you wanted with no strings attached, all the breeding and training from that point could be done by you in your game of choice.
With a scenario like this there's literally no way to trade an SS exclusive into SV, you have to train it in SS and trade it directly into the battle simulator game, meaning anyone that doesn't own Sword or Shield is shit out of luck if they wanna use that mon.

the only thing really 'wrong' about it is that you kind of have to connect a gen 4 game to it to have fun at all.

Also people coming from Colo/XD who are upset the game doesn't have a story and is just a battle sim, which is understandable.

It's super barebones, no mini games, no gym leader castle, nothing, just a budget version of the Battle Frontier from Platinum.
Making teams was also totally retarded and more of a grind than it needed to be even if you transferred your mons thanks to the battle pass system - and if you didn't transfer your mons you couldn't make a team at all, you had to use a premade one that was complete garbage.
If you happened to buy PBR without owning a Gen 4 game you basically bought a brick.
