gen 2 and 4 are the only gens in which most of the evos feel like new pokemon. in the 3D era most of them feel like copy and pastes. annihilape, wyrdeer and dudunsparce are good examples. two are just the old mon colored grey with some tacky hair hastily slapped on it and the other is just the old mon with duplicated body parts. if it's not this, then it's an ugly fur suit like obstagoon. kleavor was almost a good design but they ruined it with the "beard" and "unibrow". if it had a different head it would have been fine

gen 3-5 is also solid. the 3D has been mostly garbage but gen 9 is especially bad
