I’d be happy with a new entry or an Explorers remake; but I don’t think we’re getting one this year because they’ve been making the new Shiren. I’d love to be wrong though.

There’s things people dislike about both but neither one is outright bad.

You can't just spam le win button.
You actually have to worry about item management, dungeon preparation, placement, health management, weather, terrain and AP preservation.

GTI had terrible text speed, removed hunger and culled more than half of the existing Pokémon ("can't use charizard? le bad game!!"), but it has the second best story from the PMD games, Paradise is the Pokémon Animal Crossing we never got, and the multiplayer mode is rough yet incredibly fun if you're first experiencing the game with a friend

the anime and sometimes the games too portrayed them as more intelligent than monsters or simple tamable creatures. The dpp games even said they were once the same as humans. I always thought they were somewhere between animals and humans, they can understand and feel, but not come up with their own stuff.
That's why I never thought the mons in pmd were different from mainline ones, since you just perceive the world from their view now, and the interactions with other mons are still quiet simple.
