It's almost as if raising the fidelity of certain elements makes the complete lack of fidelity in other elements look shittier. If a game has AAA-tier models but the animations are dogshit, most people will default to saying the game looks like shit.

Wrong. SV are the only truly irredeemably bad Pokemon games, and SWSH is the best in the entire series. Even the worst pre-SV games (RBY for being janky and obsolete and BW for being tryhard nonsense) are still better than SV.

Some Famicom-era games had static sprites, ultimately Pokemon was born of the specific limitations of the platform it came out on and was never expected to succeed in the way it did. If they knew they'd be making new games 25 years later they would've come up with something other than just constantly making new monster designs.

Shield is the first and only mainline Pokemon game I haven't completed. It was so bad it killed my interest in the series, and I can appreciate what they were trying to do with SV but it's even worse. Game Freak has proven over the past decade of Pokemon and independent projects that they simply cannot do 3d games and desperately need a new story writer.
