In Emerald I didn't need to bother using Repels until I hit Mossdeep and XY I didn't need to bother using Repels period through the whole game. Meanwhile Platinum already feels like a chore without Repels after the first fucking gym because the game already ran out of interesting encounters.
Trainer battles are shit in literally every game and PLA proved you don't need trainer battles to make a Pokemon game good. Pokemon games excel when they focus more on the collectathon and exploration aspect.
