For additional context, Yonemura was also the series composer for Journeys and wrote Serena's return episode, which at the very least cucked the members of the audience who wanted to see her and Ash interact.

I wondered if he wrote the two episodes in DP that were suspiciously close together where Dawn and Ash both temporarily lose a Pokemon to Jessie and she does better with said Pokemon. But no, that was Junki Takegami.

Oh I don't remember staring my idea with an OC who is the grandchildren of a famous Explorer and decendent of a legendary hero who inherit a super special pendant that only work for him because he is the chosen one with the magical destiny.

All my idea comes from the material that comes from the game and past series. At the end, Blueberry Academy series with Lacey as the lead girl who loves to tease Ash in a shippy way would have broken the Internet and put /padt/ on constant Hype Train.

I reread some parts of Pokemon Story during lunch. Adding on another story from last night (>>55437691):
Shukichi Kanda tells the story of how he and Yuyama pitched the idea to have Ash have two human travel with him. The mandate they got received from Gamefreak/Nintendo was to play the game and figure out what they liked about it for the anime. So Kanda says he came up with the pitch of "when I played the game, I thought it would be cool to ask the Gym Leaders to travel with me like in a normal RPG." Apparently he didn't have to go that far; he asked if they could do it and they said "sure." Apparently even though the game people were strict about what the anime could do, for the most part they had a good relationship, even if a lot of their ideas got nixed.

It's pretty telling how much the game people had a say in things, if Tajiri and Takashi Kawaguchi often sat in on meetings. I'd have to imagine that things got more involved over time than less, just given how corporate the Pokemon enterprise needed to become to sustain its viability. But it's clear enough that the game side and the anime side work closely together, even though I doubt Ken Sugimori or Ishihara go to production meetings anymore. If a relatively minor thing like Ash having traveling companions had to be approved first, then surely the Horizons writing staff needs permission (if not a mandate) to do something like tinker with the lore behind a legendary Pokemon, or try to to craft an original plot for the anime.

Dunno why that specific example came to mind. Who knows? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That's actually pretty neat to know. What I am curious is how they went over stuff that had more a exclusive barring on the identity of a Pokemon like the Battle Bond thing, was there a full coverage made on that outside of the interview where it was GameFreak's/whoeveritisfromthegamesdepartment's response to dump the frog onto XY for instance.

Sounds like cope desu. If all the content featuring Goh was bad, including the episodes about him and his captures, then there's no point in splitting hairs over what fictional character 'took time' from him. If the end product is that Goh sucks, then he sucks.

Liko and Roy have already demonstrated better motivations than... liking Mew. Wanting to understand the feelings of Pokemon and unlock an actual mystery is more interesting, as is wanting to battle the Rayquaza that started Roy's journey.

"Finding my magical destiny because I am from Super Special Bloodline" is not a better motivation. Roy and Goh's goal aren't much different except Roy doesn't need to do anything because Black Rayquaza will eventually join his friends after RVT gather the remaining legendary heroes. At least Goh tried to catch as many pokemon he can and join a project to find Mew.

Despite all his flaw, Goh still had better growth than 2 characters who entire growth in 30 episode is scratching Arcanine's butt.

The only thing I can help with is that Shukichi Kanda was the one that pitched the idea of a childhood friend/crush that began Serena's part of the story. Ash-Greninja, Zygarde, all that shit didn't get fleshed out in the games (presumably because there was no Z-version) but had a lot of relevance in the anime. At this point I just have to assume that Gen 6 was a clusterfuck and we're lucky we got what we did out of it.

the show is not bad at all, its just that it struggles to fill time. the plot eps are very good but there has been a lot of filler recently. the story is both moving very fast and slow at the same time, but nothing has really happen. it has all the ingredients for greatness but it keeps falling short every time. I think HZ has the biggest discrepancy between what its potential is and what it has done so far. Everything about it is theoretically solid, especially the case. But it's hindered by being a TV Pokemon anime, with all that that implies. We can only hope that they end on a good foot and learn from this for Gen 10's anime.

I'm impressed that Horizon's has managed to keep my interest for this long. I was expecting the same unwatchable Ashime trash, but so far it's been pretty consistent with the game lore. There's been barely any classic Ash lore breaks like "Aim for the horn" or "Lock on thunderbolt".
I figured now would be when it would start appearing, since we're in filler season right now and the writers don't need to care as much, but it still hasn't happened.

As long as they keep this up I'll at least binge watch it every 20 episodes or so later down the line. The worst part of the Ashime to me(other than Ash being so boring) was that it broke the lore all the time and made up cheats to promote the chuuni OC Ash.

I had a Pokemon Horizons dream last night and it was pretty comfy, it was even hard to get out of the bed today.

Well to be fair most people see Juliana as the true MC while Florian is looked at as non-canon or side character, I mean almost every Official Pokémon related thing has Juliana on it with Florian being non-existent or just there just so boys won't get mad.

I don't agree to this but can't beat the facts that the girl character is the real protag while the boy character is there to only do what she wouldn't do like act like a buffoon or to make her look better than himself in everyday activities or catch the Pokémon deemed not compatible with the girl because it's too ugly/masculine/edgy.

Satoshi and Pikachu are back for the third arc of Pocket Monsters: 2023. The arc will be the final one. It's the versions of them from the new movie universe and they're only in four episodes involving Paldea. The 2023 series is set to be replaced by a new series simply titled "Pocket Monsters" next year. No news on what it will be about though.

It took Sprigs 30+ episode to learn Magical Leaf while the Croc learned like 4 moves by that time. Now I have to sit here and believe Liko is stronger even though she's been mostly passive throughout the adventure?

I have been enjoying Horizons but the way they write these two characters is weird imo. I get Liko is the MAIN character but at least give us more with her instead of just handing her an evo out of nowhere

You...might have a point here. Despite the two being billed as co-protags, Liko automatically had more push and was even the one the teasers primarily focused on. Even moreso if they keep his Fuecoco a Fuecoco since it's apparently way more popular than its evolved forms.

I actually like that that this is a Shoujo Pokemon anime, I actually prefer battle shoujo (Is this a thing?) than actual shonen because the male characters are better written and have actual romantic feelings for other characters, also the stories are deeper and not just i wanna be the bext xd tm.

Roy doesn't have a male friend, which is think is the most lame point in the whole anime, his only friends of his age is Liko and Dot, two girls, I think he really feels out-of-place sometimes because they usually will talk about girl stuff (Steamers, clothes, cosmetics, j-dramas and how a pokemon is cute and about their feelings) while Roy wants to talk about anime, sports and games but nobody cares, even if Friede and Murdock are into this they are boomers and they probably know a bit of recent trends.

Roy is probably trying to talk with the girls about what they like so he doesn't feel out of most conversations, plus, I think he probably spends more time alone or tagging with Friede and Murdock.

Depends on your angle. On one hand, it's worse because the standards in Horizons is higher, so Friede off-screen escaping death is a huge disappointment because it's something we want to actually see, which never happened in the Ashime.
On the other hand, that's not a lore breaking moment. Friede just got out on his own, off screen. That's perfectly believable and doesn't break any rules. It's nothing like "aim the for horn".

Understable, I agree.

But to also to put forward, in the series before Horizon it was the girl who was usually the left out one as it was always 2 boys and 1 girl, also the boys were allowed do things while the girl was usually there to be emotional encouragement or indentured servants and it didn't help how the last girl to be with Ash was rushed into the show then sidelined then forgotten, so they just reversed the roles in HZ.

At least Roy gets to do things and existence still is remembered, he isn't completely sidelined like Khloe.

The Treasure Hunting plot (which is pretty much what it is) with Liko is alright.

The Rayquaza Plot is nothing to write home about. As Roy's possible rival, Amethio has no reason to try to catch the Fug other than being extremely butthurt. And we all know Roy needs to get a grip because there is no way in hell he can beat that thing right now, and the only Fairies are with the girls. Editorial (aka, my opinion, don't take seriously): Jesus Christ. What the fuck happened this week? Episode 16 (Dot's homecoming episode against Spinel) just barely edges it out for the top rated episode of the series. I thought it was a great episode, but there was barely any Dot, there were no game characters, and aside from Sprig getting Magical Leaf at the end, there didn't seem to be any major progression or sakuga. I'm sure it'll be a aberration at this high, but damn, that is a surprisingly big number.

there is no end game, Ash will never age nor will anyone in pokemon age, but ESPECIALLY no one in the Ash anime.

The thing is that to have a good duo is that their goals must not intersect so they can help out one another and learn from one another and and cheer on one another. Or have the SAME goal and show real competition between the too, but, this goal must not be "personal" because otherwise it's unbalanced (Example, let's pretend Roy wants to discover all the shit about Lucius. This wouldn't work because this is literally Liko's birthright so matter how much they pretend otherwise Roy will always be a step behind narratively)
This is the biggest issue with Roy. Everything about him is actually in reality about Liko. His goal is at best a sidequest on Riko's goal.
And then there's Friede's existing too. He cannot be "the battler" because Friede fulfills that role too.
There's absolutely not a single thing that's "his".
He's not even a good buttmonkey or comedy relief. He's just there. He doesn't add a single thing to the narrative, not even good inter-character interactions.

This sounds like something you'd just for a forced villain twist. Having Rakua be a threat to the world is fine, but I see no reason to make Lucius into a villain. It also doesn't make sense since his Pokemon were the Heroes and we know they weren't sealed. Just have it that that Lucius had to have himself sealed or whatever by the Explorers and now Gibeon is trying to unseal it for whatever reason.

There no need to make Lucius a superior human being who is better than everybody in the entire Pokémon world. That's even more cliche and make Lucius looks like garbage self insert.

Also heroes in Pokémon world isn't always the hero. For example, "Hero" from Galar legend turned out to be bunch of fraud who cover up everything related to Zacian and Zamazenta to take all the credit for themselves. Hero in Unova legend were two idiot prince that spilt the Original Kyurem over a petty argument.

Its more interesting if Lucius turns out to be not nearly as special and flawless as his legend makes him sound to be.
