>>55442353I mean I have one but you're just totally misunderstanding why party-based RPGs are the way they are and why Pokemon is the way that it is so why should I even bother?
Again, traditional RPGs do not have stacked enemy groups during battles or allow you to switch out the units you have on the field.
If an enemy shows up and is weak to Fire in Final Fantasy you have a mage out to deal with it while the other characters either deal with other threats or go on the defensive.
In Pokemon if a fire enemy comes out you switch into your water unit to deal with it and then, because battles in Pokemon involve more than one unit coming at you one at a time, the enemy will switch into something else after the fire monster is defeated that may or may not be strong against the water monster you have out, at which point you have to assess whether to stick with it or spend a turn switching out to something else (assuming you're over 12 years old and are playing on Set)
It's essentially FFXIII's paradigm shift system where your enemies are also capable of paradigm shifting.
And on top of all of this traditional RPGs have enemies that are much more powerful than the characters in your main party - a 4-man party is meant to go toe to toe with a boss monster in terms of overall HP and attack power.
In Pokemon one of your Pokemon is evenly matched with an enemy Pokemon, barring the inherent differences between Pokemon species of course.
