My favorite scene of eons in flux is when phos told scrafty to stay back because she was beginning to flux.

On that note as one of the artfags here, I really see no harm in using stuff like bases or memes as a jumping off point if more standard references like photos or 3d models aren't sufficient/readily available. I'd love to recommend specific channels but I don't actually keep up with any unfortunately, most of what I learned early on was less from guided lessons and more watching speedpaints from artists I already liked and trying to break down what it was they were doing.

I'd boil Axel down to Dark/Psychic. Though most of it is Axel as the overarching OC I use in general rather than Axel the pokemon trainer.

Axel isn't "evil" like the japanese name would imply but the fact that he never talks and gives off weird vibes to other people would mean people think of him negatively.

Psychic is the type of "supernatural". Again, it's more of the general Axel concept rather than him as a trainer since he doesn't have any supernatural abilities outside of a keener ability to read pokemon than most trainers.

Ranger OC: Rock/Ground, he's a resilient tracker, scout, hunter, etc. (with a sandstorm team)
Tech OC: Electric/Steel, she's a skilled inventor and mechanic constantly working with technology and machines.

You could check /ic/ but beware the gooners. I draw for dollarinos as long as you're OC isn't a degenerate, otherwise look up artists and styles you like and try to copy it, or watch tutorials on specific things like sketching faster, lineart, digital coloring, cel shading.

Newton would be Ghost as a main type obviously, but I'm unsure of secondary typing. Poison maybe because of his preferred strategies? Fighting because of his otherwise high energy levels? Fairy because of the food themes which seems bizarrely associated with that type? I think I would have to figure out what his remaining two Pokemon are before I know for sure.

While not really a habit or tic, if the stakes are high enough, Ayumu will actually give commands to his Pokémon in battle. Much like Killua's [Shippuu Jinrai] or Gash's unwavering trust in Kiyomaro, that allows his Pokémon to move faster by not needing to think about anything themselves and just instantly reacting to his commands, greatly increasing efficiency.

Yeah! I really like them too, always thought it was a shame they were so weak.

I tried to flip their normal concept, so instead of the mushroom being a parasite, it's actually busy trying to keep the host from having panic attacks or getting into trouble. A weird symbiotic relationship where the mushroom ends up weirdly busy. The evolution is the conclusion of that where the mushroom is basically thrust into the driver's seat. Thought that'd be fun.

I know what you're talking about but hadn't thought of the connection on my own. It's much friendlier let me assure you.

Originally I was trying to figure out a good heat or fire word to append to the existing naming convention and Celsius was one that I was thinking on. Once I noticed that Paraselsius looked like Paracelsus I then got the concept of it being supportive that I mentioned above. So basically it started as a coincidence and then I leaned into it. Pollen Puff, Healer Ability, probably has other supporting moves like Sweet Scent and Aromatherapy as well.

on the topic of types bibi strikes me as a fighting/bug type. she has dorky swirly glasses that just scream "big buggy compound eyes" to me. bug types also have that rep for being kinda wimpy and she spends a good chunk of her life in poor health so you've got that "frail" sort of aspect.

fighting not just because she picks up martial arts at some point, but because of its association with grit, determination, justice, hard work etc. also, before the events of the indigo disk mellow her out she does have those violent temper flares. overall, "feisty" isn't a bad word to describe her.

alto is a normal/dark type, because as much as he tries his best to maintain an air of mystique and a bad boy allure he's just a kid trying to live up to his idea of what "coolness" is. I could also see him being an electric/dark type though, given down the line he makes his own TMs and overdrive is an electric type move.

tesoro could really be any combination of ghost/dark/poison (and honestly, i could even make arguments for something like ghost/steel or ghost/fairy). tes may or may not be a reincarnation of one of the ancient kings of paldea, the very one whose castle was brought to rubble by the treasures of ruin. i like to think that desire to recollect them never died, and that even if the kings body had long decayed his wish lived on, and now haunts the region what must be centuries later. tesoro is also a bit whimsical, creepy, and good at making himself scarce which all read "ghost" to me. dark and poison both align well with his traitorous nature, shady dealings, and underhanded tactics.

The cave's nane comes from the presence of the salt and the fire types. That said plotting out the region is harder than expected and I might go back and change things as I get new ideas. I figured the location would be basic since it came near the start but having rare ingredients could be fun if I get ideas.

Alyssa: Normal/Bug. No idea if I’m actually going to use her or not. I won’t say why I picked this, but it’ll make sense once she shows up.
Dasein: Water/Dragon.This will make sense (probably) once I get his bio finished.
King William: Dark/Dragon. Tyrannical king. Really, what else could it be?
Prince Pierre: Dark/Normal. Like King William but with a bit of humanity still left in him.

A bit tough but I think Rouka's primary type would be fairy. Due to her love of cutesy things and her mischievous impish nature. Her secondary typing would be psychic which she picks up from her prolonged exposure to jynx. She's not really adept at it but she's sensitive to it.

Ghost/Psychic. Both her focus on the paranormal and her mental bond with her Gothitelle. She's also somewhat of a medium so that makes sense.

Fighting/Dark. She loves to fight and has her own code of justice but she's still a dirty delinquent who has no qualms about fighting dirty.

I mean, Act 4 is called Pokemon: TerrorFIVE, so I have to have at least five additional characters for Alex to take down. I was going to have Alex as a loner originally, but I thought that would be too difficult to pull off and I also think that having characters to contrast with him will make his characterization easier and better.

Act 5 (and a potential Act 6) need more characters in order to give the Graxum region and government depth, in addition to further helping to characterize Alex.

Ultimately basically all of the characters except for potentially Dasein and an unnamed character concepts aren’t meant to be used on their own and mostly just there to help the story feel alive. Kind of like an actual Pokémon game.

While writing my first serious story I took a little rest and drew this cool guy. Franco is a very cool dude, gives me feelings like he's an actual character from pokemon franchise. He's like, this second boss man that commands hordes of henchmen and always treats them like they can be replaced at any second and overall seems to be a good villain.
The only disappointment for me is that we don't have his art in full height jej

But yeah, Franco is a 5'6" short king. Phos has the height advantage over him at an above-average 6'0", and she adds an extra inch with her heels.

As far as my knowledge on the subject goes, I'm pretty sure the only use in humans (so far) is to screen for genetic traits the parents may or may not desire, so that undesired embryos can be tossed out instead of implanted. No actual alteration of human embryos (yet...) Still a fascinating and potentially horrifying subject, though.

Another thread question: Are your OCs in a canon Pokemon setting/universe, and if so where do they fall on the timeline? As an example, if your OC is 20 years old, what else is going on in the Pokemon world at that time? I know some people have custom regions or settings, but what would your OC have been up to while Team Rocket was vandalizing Kanto, or Team Plasma freezing over parts of Unova?

Always glad to hear that people are enjoying the series. A lot of the writing in this episode was a reaction to all the ridiculous things that had happened to me during the writing process, and I was a little worried that it might come off as too farcical for some compared to previous episodes.

Well, finally managed to play around with AI a little to get a pic of Hazel. This is the best result so far, though there are definitely some details that need to be tweaked. Emily was the one there fighting Team Plasma while they were trying to freeze it over. Or at least in her timeline she is. Haven't quite hashed out the rest of the timeline relative to it. It's based off of Pokespe with some elements of the games and anime mixed in, such as Nate being his game age of 16 or the Orange Islands from the anime also existing

Holy shit this custom region stuff is no joke. After someone else who was working on this stuff asked if I was moving the tiles around manually, I had to try it out. Inevitably started rearranging the whole thing becoming discontent with one thing or wanting to tweak another thing and so on and so forth.. Unsure on the purposes or environments for many of these places still, but I feel like the ultimate map arrangement and the shapes themselves are pretty cool. Whoever gave me that idea, thanks. I like this map a lot more than the one I started with.

Feels a bit odd to say this, but if any artanons actually ever feel like drawing Hazel, his hair is meant to be a uniform-length, medium-length cut about like pic related. (Minus the layering.) The idea being a cut he can do himself with a buzz cutter and comb attachment.

I've said this before but Ruka's story takes place 10-15 years after the original Red and Blue. (probably 10 for ease). She lives in Kanto but starts from Celedon City instead of Pallet town and halfway through her journey ends up taking the train to Johto as well. She woulda been a relatively young child during the events of Red and Blue (though I'm just realizing she'd only have been about 4 years younger than Red during those events.)
Currently Team Rocket still exists, they're just in shambles after what Red did. It's more akin to a bunch of smaller disorganized groups run by individual admins. Also it's vaguely based on the anime version as well as there's a lotta contest halls littered across it in Ruka's version.

There's one Miku figure based on a Kannnu design (not pic related). I wanted it so bad. Honestly? I took scriptwriting classes in uni. I just have 30-40 notes of things or scenes I need to have. Some are bigger than others in relevance or scope. That means one of those notes can be “scene of Koa doing X thing” and then another scene can be broken down into 5 pieces. In the end, I’ll have 3 distinct acts: first, an introduction where you get to see Koa’s status quo, an inciting incident and rising action. Second, a series of trials and circumstances that lead to a big challenge. There will be a low point around the end of this part. And finally, act 3 will have the final confrontation, with the lowest lows turning into the highest highs, and then a falling action where things return to a status quo. That’s how you hit all the beats of Joseph Campbell’s idea of the monomyth.

All the notes I have are what I consider to be necessary for the story to be “good” in my eyes. I’ve hit all the marks of the hero’s journey in sensical ways that could make for a 22 minute TV episode. That’s the best way I see it: all my writing has to work as a TV episode, were it to be filmed or animated.

Is this a good structure? Originally I would be starting at Act 4 but I feel like all of the prior acts are necessary in order to justify Alex being a Cynthia tier trainer as well as slowly becoming how violent he is. Act 4 basically finishes out his “final” character and I feel like it’s a bad idea to not have the context of his backstory developing him into that. At the same time, that’s a lot of Acts, and working on such a long an ambitious project runs the risk of entering a stasis or being canceled altogether, especially that Act 6 and Act 6.5 are probably happening now.

I could do that, but I have a few issues. One, my PC is on the fritz, so I've been phoneposting harder than a zoomer hooked on Gamer Supps. Two, I don't feel like using AI bing on my phone. It's synchronized with my personal Google, and I feel it could swap my contacts and settings. And 3, and this is probably the one I can see myself skipping: Yuri fluff ain't my thing. I'm a basic weeb, and even I feel both the isekai and yuri fluff hurt the media, because I feel all I'm seeing now is mass produced wankfus ready to be sacrificed to the denerates' fanboxes. But on the plus side, I haven't seen Kobayashi Maid, but I do like Kannah, she is adorable.
Oh, and 4: I deleted my pastebin because it deleted my old pastas due to "breaking the TOS". Thank God I always made copies in my PC, but now I'm at square one. At least I have some saved in my MEGA.

But you could just use DMs somewhere for that though. Like Discord for the actual writing for clean logs that usually don't expire + Steam for OOC chatter and just discussing and clearing things with whoever you're writing with or just contain it solely to Discord where you make a PRIVATE server for 1 on 1 writing so you can seperate actual writing from OOC chatter all in the same place without muddying the logs. Axel freezes up when he's genuinely frightened. Health scares are what get to him most. He's in healthy shape but the slightest chest pain causes him to start to panic.

Axel is highly driven towards his goals and is an expert at battling. However he's got horrible social skills. He can get by on a surface level but he sometimes falls too much into the "edgelord" image he crafts in his mind and will say something that pushes people away.

I still don't really know what kind of story to tell with Axel since I see him more as a side character in a bigger story rather than the main character.

This is the best visual for Orchis. Goofy sentai villains are really fun. I wonder if it that character for Orchis would ever bubble up in other non-performance related situations.
Silas might need to blend into the crowd from being noticed from an adversarial force. He’d trip over a chest of costumes, throw on a mask and ad hoc a guest hero with Volbeat. Very little puts a genuine fear response in Emily but the rare occasions it does you'd easily miss it cause it's one of the few things that send her towards violence the quickest. It's indistinguishable from any other kind of "fight" response since to her anything that can sorta of unnerve her in that way is directly correlated with "kill or be killed".

For all that straight faced coldness she puts on, people have in more than one story come to see that Emily across all her renditions is a very generous, selfless and compassionate girl who tries to hide this softness behind her usual tough and icy facade. Like in one non-Pokemon story she was out in a tundra region and killed a Dragon that attacked a village that had done nothing to wrong said dragon, leaving it as a frozen, preserved warning to other dragons that unsolicited attacks could result in them being subjected to the same fate. The village was largely flattened and the nearby capital refused to take in many of the people. Emily ended up taking the people with them and having them work in a tavern that is connected to various pocket spaces of her making so they had a place to live and also a means to provide for themselves. Some of them had moved on to other prospects elsewhere while some still work and live in the tavern. All the people however were very grateful to her for both saving them and also giving them a place to live and find work to sustain themselves with. The partner I am writing said story with actually found it surprising that Emily has a hidden track record of similar deeds, general generosity and compassion for actually innocent people painted across the region like a trail. Her self destructive tendency tends to be self-isolation and treating herself like a weapon, but usually a partner character gradually puts a halt to that.

People are moreso grateful to her for saving them without expecting anything back and offering the place to live at all considering rich people across countless settings, including the one the story takes place in would never do the same and they especially wouldn't do it out of any sort of kindness of their hearts. Hazel's is probably freeze, especially if other people's fear in such a situation is strong enough to reach his empathic sense, which can overwhelm him.
Another OC I'm working on is more of a feisty character, so her response would probably be fight unless it's something way out of her league.

Hazel's best trait is probably patience, specifically patience when dealing with other people or Pokemon. He's willing to take the time to get to know someone, so long as they're the same with getting to know him. As for his most self-destructive... I would say it's over-reliance on his psychic powers to try understanding people. Since the primary way to establish a "connection" with his powers is through either physical contact or heavy concentration, he's stuck with the options of awkwardly asking for some kind of continued contact or making a "concentrated" face which may be off-putting, especially if he's focusing his attention on a single person.
My next OC's best trait, I think, is passion. She's the kind who will throw all of herself into anything she does to get the most out of it. Her most self-destructive, though, would be a tendency to shoulder a lot of emotional weight by herself; preferring to suffer on her own in silence rather than confide in other people, resulting in a fierce temper.

My main 'verse is much more slice-of-life for these characters, with not too much action outside of casual and/or official league battles. I have an AU on the back burner that's a lot more shonen-action-y, with the humans a lot more involved in the fighting and the stakes, but that's mostly for when I feel the need to think about those high octane, frustration-venting action scenes.

Not really familiar with that producer, think I only heard 1 song of them, one with pink background (not that that means much), but based on a single example, I wouldn't have guessed that they are one of the edgy ones.
Speaking of edgy, it reminds me of when the project had just started and people asked if Utsu would take part and he replied "there's no way with this handle" (his twitter handle is/was "@asshole_wii").

I once tried to get into music production software and made a few shitty songs, steadily slowing down when I ran out of ideas with my limited understanding of the program in question, and music in general. Newton I think flows into fight from flight where the first order of business is trying to assure his safety and the second order of business is confirming and dealing with the problem.

Patience with himself and others comes to mind. Calmly being able to consider his circumstances to come up with his options moving forward. Considerate towards others. A pretty good cook. Mostly I would want him to be kind.

A lack of ambition maybe? I think he's got a conservative estimation of his abilities and plays safer than some of his battle strats and actions might suggest. He'll look at his options, go for goals he's pretty sure are doable, and won't apply himself for the ones that might be doable. He might have a high opinion of what he might eventually be able to accomplish but might miss short term opportunities for these reasons.

No, the reason he regrets giving them to Nate is actually because in retrospect he thinks that he just should have capped them anyway. Terrorfive is literally comprised of ex-Plasma members with a few ex-Flares which makes him wonder if some of them managed to break out of prison. Yeah, that's the whole point. By the time we get to Act 5, Alex is basically Cynthia tier but I want to be able to justify that, which is why he demolishes the Graxum region and Unova League so easily. The original plan was to start at Act 4, with no interludes, but I felt like that would make his character cheap. I HATE it when characters are stupidly powerful for no reason (main reason why I never watched DBZ), I want to avoid a Tobias situation where Alex just shows up, beats the shit out of everyone, and leaves with no explanation, which is why I have so much investment into showing how he gains all of his skills and how his sociopathy festers throughout his life, since basically no character development happens after Act 5. It's going to be long and hard, but I'd rather go through all of this then live with Alex being powerful and edgy out of the gate.

I love the outfits. It would be pretty funny to see Alto think he's super metal until he checks out what Alex listens to and gets blasted with this shit

unless there's something he's sure he can do about it alto flees at the first sign of legitimate danger. he likes having all his limbs attached thank you very much. would need a *very* good reason to stay and fight back rather than haul ass outta there

tesoro is a fawner, similarly to bibi it takes a lot to scare him. you have to corner him and somehow convince him there's no way to fight back or flee. it's maybe the only way to get his immense pride to crack, he'll immediately start trying to appease the other party and defuse the situation til he sees a way out

What are other anons' thoughts on characters getting harmed in ways such as losing limbs and needing prosthetics? I've toyed with the idea of a character having a prosthetic limb that's basically just a fancy puppet arm or something that they control via telekinesis, but on a character like Hazel (who runs into danger on his journeys but isn't exactly throwing himself at it) that feels like it would just be... extra. Not that his character arc is fully fleshed out yet, but still. On one hand there's the sentiment that a handicap shouldn't hold you back from living your life, but on the other hand a handicap is still a handicap and adventuring would be drastically more difficult and stressful with one than without one. It feels like sort of a core detail to include on a character rather than something to be attached as a flavor detail. Losing an entire limb would be a traumatic and life altering event after all. If you go for it I think you should put a lot of thought in.

As stated many times, all 3 legendary birds and their galarian counterparts. What's mostly stopping him is finding the birds in the first place. He has kantoian Articuno but that's because it has a defined habitat.

I have always been of the opinion that that's a problem with everyone else rather than the Saiyans being inherently OP.
Like, Goku and Vegeta live and breathe training. Of course they'll be strong.
Meanwhile everyone else has gone and pretty much given up fighting. And those who still train? Don't do it properly or efficiently. What gains is Tien gonna be getting when all he does is train in the mountains doing the same training he's been doing for decades with only Chiaotsu as a sparring partner?
Meanwhile Goku and Vegeta went and sought training from Whis. They're always looking to break their limits.
And then you look at other characters like Jiren. He's a generic gray ayy lmao and he became stronger than the Gods through sheer autistic training.
Go count how many GoD are Saiyans. That's right. None of them.
Hell, when you think about it, the humans right now are stronger than practically all Saiyans in history ever were pre-Namek Saga.
And nowadays even the peaks like Ultra Instinct and Ego are something anyone who trains for them can do and access.

This is a difficult question as part of Hazel's character arc is not having a defined goal as a trainer. He doesn't really care about the league, just participating for the sake of his friend, nor is he intentionally seeking particularly rare Pokemon. I guess I would say that what he wants is something to be passionate about like all of the trainers around him, while his biggest obstacle is holding himself back from pursuing his interests passionately - as though investing time in an interest that doesn't pan out would be a waste, and expecting such a passion to just come around and smack him in the face.

Originally, the Graxum region wasn't even supposed to exist. It came to me as a stupid, tangential thought. The original plan was for Monty to go on a business trip on Alola and get kidnapped and ransomed by Team Skull, just before the events of SM, with Team Skull being much stronger. Alex once again goes on a rampage, and this time he is almost depicted as the bad guy with the grunts being more humanized and Alex literally beating the shit out of both Gladion and Plumeria, only stopping because he thinks that he's being watched, leading Guzma to pay to send the grunts to remote locations of Alola to preserve Team Skull and him evacuating Po Town to face Alex alone. Which begs the question, should I just go with this instead for Act 5 and scrap the Graxum region? I don't want to get too ambitious; designing a function region is difficult and I think that keeping it in Alola will make the story more grounded, as well as further characterizing just how unhinged Alex can get.

I was thinking about Furia as a setting, and as I go deeper into the whole "fairy tale/cursed land" vibe the more I feel as though the things I'm borrowing from the common pokemon setting need some... reconstructing?

For example, the pokeball. It's a very convenient piece of technology but I'm starting to see how it may fit the setting better to just remove the concept and lean even more into the fantasy aspect. What binds a Pokemon to a trainer without pokeballs? I've already established that Furian trainers and pokemon have a inherent battle bond thing going on, but *why*? And on a meta level, I've been asking myself why I'm keeping this story as a PokeFic if clearly I could just make a magic system and replace the Pokemon if I wanted to make it OC.

The meta answer is easy. Duh, I like Pokemon. The cool designs, the sick moves, the endearment that comes not just from using them to battle but also just going on a journey with them. The slice of life aspects and how life changes when your pets basically become monsters with magic powers. That's at the core of why *I* enjoy Pokemon. Sooo I'd like to present to the class my very initial answer to the above questions and if anyone wants to chime in or bounce an idea back that'd be cool.

Why do trainers need pokemon? Well, that one feels kinda obvious: it's a source of power but also companionship. Pokemon have physical properties that humans don't have and have an attunement with the elements that is rare. Rana is an example of a person who can use magic but it's in a much different way then how a Gengar can use a Shadow Ball.
Why do Pokemon need humans? Well, Pokemon can't use complex or abstract moves without a trainer. Like a Charizard could use Flamethrower because it's a natural thing a fire breathing dragon should be able to do, but *manipulation* of the elements to the degree that would be needed to use something like Flare Blitz wouldn't be possible in the wild.
Pokemon have power and instinct, humans have wisdom and intuition. The union of those concepts is what makes the whole greater.
As for the question of "how does a pokemon choose a trainer", it's tied to an instinctual draw to an individual. Individual Pokemon species already have their own personality traits, so it makes sense that they would seek trainers that resonate with those innate quirks. For example Hydreigons are naturally said to be very wrathful, so they would resonate best with a trainer that either amplifies that traits through their bond or alternatively someone who compliments that viciousness with temperance.

Pokemon Conquest had a pretty good take on a ball-less system where people have an inherent capacity to control Pokemon based on their ability to form links that bind their mons to them on a spiritual level. With trainers and pokemon bonded in this way there's some sort of benefits involved, like that Battle Bond stuff.

The material/item is unique to the region and that's why they do stuff differently.

Thiiiis is interesting. Honestly this makes a lot of sense and even has a sort of internal precedent in my head, since each god in Furia is tied to a specific dragon pearl. I was also playing around with the idea of tying in the idea of curses into the whole system. Something like:

Each person carries their own set of curses and blessings, born from their negative or positive experiences and actions. Some people may eventually manifest these emotions into a pearl, becoming a source of power that Pokemon are drawn to.

Honestly I should be knocking out soon too. I'm really taking the shine to the item idea mentioned earlier too. I dunno if I'd answer the "why" the same way as conquest, but it's good food for thought.
Furia means fury, which is a core concept to the setting. The "cursed land" aspect is based entirely around negative emotions that manifest in the land in the form of pestilences like the "Black Rain that makes people go beserk" thing. I also remember someone mentioning that Furia would probably have some sort of dark legendary, which I have in mind. Maybe the trainer bonding thing is a microscopic version of what's going on in the greater setting. Also I just got dejavu writing that last line. dunno why though

I can’t say for certain whether Alex would let Tes live or not. It depends on the situation. That being said, Alex prefers to work alone, and after Act 4 he basically takes no prisoners.

I’m not exactly sure why he would be going after Alto or Bibi unless he was convinced they took something from him. Alex would probably just make Alto drop it and promise not to tell a soul or else he won’t be merciful next time.

He would definitely pull the trigger on Bibi though. Never dare Alex to do anything, he WILL do it no matter how insane it might be. Cue the ensuing Weavile while Alex runs for cover.

Something I'm currently trying to do before moving forward with the Taysha Region is figuring out what Pokemon are going to be there in a general sense. If I can do that I can figure out roughly how many Pokemon I should distribute from route to route, and any special areas I'll need to add so that the mons I want have a place to be encountered. While I'm working on this I'm thinking on legendaries though. Celebii, Diancie, the various Regis, and Deoxys I think will be here among maybe some other stuff. I was sorta thinking about adding Xerneas and Yveltal as well though, but they're like the big two of Kalos. The other legendaries are known to have multiple instances and show up around the world, but box art legendaries are supposed to be much more significant and are usually more regionally locked. Does it mess with conventions too much to have them be here, or do you think it would be fine? If I avoid it, should I try to come up with some sort of oc Big Duo for the region?

When I was first trying to think of the region's themes it related to forest lifecycles and decay. Later after developing the map I noticed it kinda looked like some kind of cartoon skull face with the T10 and T14 towns being like eyes and the path from R6 to R11 looking like a big, frowny mouth, so I thought I'd keep trying to lean into that more. I don't really have a comprehensive lore or mythos for the region yet, but if I was going to keep working with those themes I thought the Life and Death legendaries would be appropriate enough.

Couldn't find the gym talk i from last thread but i made a gym a while back fixed up some of the art here.
The story about the gym is that an unknown mythical pokemon caused havoc in a town and a man repelled the pokemon that caused the town to suffer, but they were in dept to the man so they respected him. As the town grew it turned into a city and that's where the man stays. he does some underhanded things here and there.
As his "Empire" Grew so did his posse. He wants to attain Gym leader status but is always denied due to his actions so if anything this Gym is like seeing Cynthia in a random house but with more steps, sort of a side story/ optional battle. You first would need to talk to a random npc to start the "Gym" As they'll lead you to an alley and initiate you into a double battle, but an officer helps you in the battle. At the end of it they run off as the police chase after them.
Your lost in the alleys of Alto Mare and you'd have to figure your way out of it just like Viridian forest and Kalos's alleys.
Paths will either lead you to Fights where they overwhelm you like rotation battles, Double or triple battles. And even if you win they'll mostly trick you by letting you go the wrong way. knocking on peoples doors to help you, or they'll ignore you (they're in the bit of the Gym) Fountains either wont work or they'll work to heal your pokemon. People might toss you out of windows Battles items like Dire Hit, X speed and Guard Specks then eventually the path will lead you to a mansion you come in though the rear, pass a garden you will be in a gym, the doors shut and some delinquents will steal some of your key items, and any gimmicks you have (Megastone, Zstone, or whatever the gigantimax thing people use now) Depending on what game you would get would face off against the man of the house hold Draeul or a Nurse joy named Braeden
To add to confusion It's an inverse battle

Koa isn’t the type to see a Pokémon as a utility. They’re all essential partners for him. However, some of them have particular purposes that could fit this category.

Stretchy, the Alolan Exeggutor, helps Koa by providing a vantage point. Koa climbs up Stretchy’s neck carefully and can usually look up from higher than usual if he needs to take a good look upwards.

Hula, the Milotic, is Koa’s main swimmer. Heck, I don’t think he has a flier yet. Garchomp can technically fly, but Rebel, the Gabite, hasn’t evolved yet.

Hula will kindly give Koa a ride through the waves, usually on trips to and from Exeggutor Island, or other places in Alola. Koa doesn’t really bother teaching her any surfing trips because he thinks he’s just fine being the elegant swimmer she is, but he actually has an interest in Contests, deep down. He’d be happy to bring Mo-o and/or Hula to a Contest, probably in Sinnoh, to try a new kind of Pokémon experience.

Pokémon presentations like the ones in the XY anime aren’t canon IMO and I just imagine Contests are done commonly elsewhere, not just in Hoenn or Sinnoh. I think the concept is a bit derivative and redundant. Why couldn’t they have called it Contests? Weird.

Not solely for utility, but my main (ex-ranger) OC's team includes:

He doesn't want nor expects to be able to catch it (fortunately for him, because in my setting it *is* impossible), but he does want to meet it, see it up close, the pinnacle of Ghost types. The biggest obstacle is that he has no fucking idea on how to go about, after an entire year searching throughout Sinnoh, above and underground, and all its ruins, he put "active search" on hold and for now is just hoping that the strange rock (Griseous Orb) he found in one of those ruins will lead him to naturally meet Giratina someday.

Lysandre and Team Flare are capable of Mega Evolution and nothing happens which suggests that Mega Evolution is “friendship locked”, we are never shown an unsuccessful attempt at Mega Evolution either. i'm more or less making an "OC" for in-game fights and slightly less story, trying to think of a fun team for a triple battle with a clothes designer who uses the illusionary hairs of zorua/zoroark for designs. design-wise i dunno if i wanna make him a cool fucking wizard-looking guy or an eccentric waifu, but here's my idea of the pokemon used at least:

Rouka ia definitely more of a freezer than anything. She'll flee if she can muster the strength though.
Rita fights. She confronts her fear by trying to be even scarrier.
Oriko's default state is to fight back. Though depending on what kinda fear it is she may freeze. (She would punch a wild pokemon but would freeze against a ghost of something.)

She can create paths out ice so they can cross small gaps or rivers. As she gets stronger she can make longer and sturdier ones. Across still water Jynx can freeze the water under her feet as she walks and Rouka just piggybacks. She can also lift Rouka psychically to high places or out of harm's way. Rouka can return the favor by returning her to the pokeball.
>Slowpoke is perfect for when she wants to wade in water because he stays perfectly still. Also if you need an anchor or a blockade slowpoke is so heavy and unmoving he's perfect.
>Bellossom
Can cut down trees and vines but also make them grow if that's what you want. Good for creating cover to hide behind.
>Azumarril
While usually good to help swim Azumarril swims a bit to fast for Ruka's liking. However if you need an obstacle moved like a rock smashed or tree felled, Azummaril is your guy.
>Staryu
A good middle ground in terms of swim speed plus he can float meaning Ruka can hang on him in midair if he needs to. Plus if he lays flat she can sit on him like a small platform. Cant do it for too long though. She's a bit heavy for Starry.
>Growlithe
This is as good as any to say im thinking of giving her a growlithe. I feel like fire coverage is a weird gap in her party and the tiger stripes on Growlithe feel like they'd be just her style. Anyway growlithe would help sniff for items and of course start campfires and the like.

I've always thought it would be cool to be a normal type trainer, and I'm also a park ranger IRL so normal type park ranger seems cool.

Raticate/furret/bibarel
Dodrio/noctowl/staraptor
Ursaluna/dudunsparce/pyroar
Arbolivia/wigglytuff/heliolisk

Lots of variety and utility with normal type

I think a good normal type ranger team would be:

one's a fairy type gym leader, the other fighting, but the twist is the fairy leader's this fucking roided out guy that uses masculine fairy types while his partner is a very ladylike woman that uses less masculine fighting types
think of them having teams like

That's what I was thinking as well, I'm mostly just in stat consideration mode because both Klinklang and Magnezone have like 35 base stat advantage on Dragalge. I guess Archaludon and Revavroom fit the steel niche well enough, though.

Oh yeah, did I mention that Alex sometimes uses Archaludon as a chair? On long walks, he will make it carry him on its back.
