Grass is only the best in Gen 1, every subsequent generation has repeatedly shafted the grass starter by comparison
>gen 2 first two gyms are flying and bug, with meganium line having middling stat spread in comparison to other starters
>gen 3, advantage on the first, but so does every other starter because lmao fire/fighting all grovyle has is leaf blade, grass one of the worst offensive typings because of the shit moves to use
>gen 4 torterra is easily the worst of the starters slow grass/ground in a region that loves ice types

irrelevant cause you can pick up a geodude in dark cave, which learns rock throw at level 11 and magnitude at level 16. stab rock throw kills the first two gyms, rollout kills the third, magnitude kills the fourth. what the grass starter does is force the rival to pick the fire starter, which is then weak to rock throw and magnitude.
