Because Gamefreak made the foolish mistake of making one version that has a cool dogmon that wields a sword, and the other version a retarded dogmon whose mane just gets bigger. It's like how Violet is massively more popular than Scarlet, to the point that people struggled to complete the Pokedex because there were so few Scarlet players to trade with.
