It’s was only fully evolved Ghost type that was actively shilled for the first 3 gens. Fuck they essentially shadow banned Misdreavus from its own generation just so Gengar would have more spotlight

I used Misdreavus in gen 2 as a kid, it was one of my favorite Pokemon. Don't really get the appeal of Gengar either

I think turning Ghastly into a ball was pretty stupid.
The whole point of the Gengar line is that he slowly becomes more corporeal as he gets stronger.
I guess the idea is still kinda there but I liked how in Gen 1 the progression looks like he's slowly stepping into our world with each stage.

Gastly was straight up turned into Cloyster and it sucks. I mean the sugimori artwork always depicted it as a sphere and it was just the bad non-canon game art that made it look like a cloud, but I will always like that version a lot more.

My problem with this is that it makes it less interesting and unique. It loses its whole hook. Gastly is not cool because it's a ghost; it's cool because it's a cloud of poisonous gas that can suffocate things. Nothing about Gengar suggests the poison typing.

every trade evolution in gen 1 is a direct upgrade except Gengar like sure it gets stronger but it loses a lot of personality. I don't even know what you'd do for an alternate evolution haunters perfect as is, it's like the Nintendo floating head hand boss as a Pokemon
