I like the old style of games as much as the next guy, but let's be real here, pokemon is one of the few series that conceptually lends itself to the open world format
do you think the pokemon anime would have picked up any popularity if ash was being constantly railroaded and dragged from place to place without the freedom to explore?

routes were fine on handhelds but there is a reason why fans can only name a handful routes with remarkable level design or unique mechanics. For every Gible cave there is 10 hallways with an HM spot and a line of trainers

The problem lies in the fact that the open world designs they've presented so far lend itself to a bunch of empty nothing. Fill it with fun things to do and the game will be enjoyable. GF doesn't know how to make a fun modern game, though, so it will be shit.

I don't know about you, but since the transition from the hallway to the open world the game environment seems to have become lazier and emptier than before, even the choice to set the game in a single city increases the level of laziness of Game Freak !

I want an open world Pokemon if it means I see Pokémon behaving and interacting with their environment. Herds of Tauros, Caterpie in the trees, bird Pokémon making nests. Not just an empty plain with no landmarks and Pokemon dotted around.

Soooo the thing SV had?

But nah let's go to PEAK gen 5 where the pokemon aren't visible in the overworld and you need to run in circles in grass until the .png pops up, it was so much better bros, open world was a lazy mistake
