No, retard. The reason for the futuristic/wireframe aesthetic in the trailer was because GAME FREAK have not created all the assets for the game's setting yet, and the game is clearly still in development. It's set in the 1940s.

The Eiffel tower in real life was built for the 1889 World's Fair. That's closer to 100 years ago while Hisui was closer to 200, but it's still in the right ballpark, especially if it's meant to be the centerpiece of some brand new construction project.

The trailer certainly makes it seem more likely that the game is set in the future, but it being Victorian era game would also work just fine.

One of the first things the trailer shows is a waterway that is entirely different than the one in XY. If the game was set in the past, then the waterway wouldn't be there.

This is a dumb argument, stop parroting it.
The game comes out next year, they already know what they're going with in terms of graphics and art style. It would have been no trouble for them to animate the trailer differently.
The fact that such a futuristic style was used was clearly intentional. Why else would they start the trailer with a hand drawn style and then switch over? They could have just kept using it.

The Effiel Tower wasn't part of the redevelopment of Paris you dunces, it wasn't build until 20 goddamn years later, and took two years to constuct. The game glearly shows the tower is already built and fuctional.

We dont know how the city was before this plan. It could be a fucking afew tents in a circle, it could've looked like Arceus's Jubilee settlement. Everything in the teaser was basically the blueprints and the end goal of what the city will look like. We know nothing as to what Lumois looks like in that age.
It also talks about making a place for pokemon and people to co-exist in the teaser, the same kind of line that got thrown around in Arceus since being companions with Pokemon was still developing in all the different regions because it was the past.

You're the one being deliberately obtuse by questioning how somebody in the 1800s could be utilizing electricity when they live in a world where knowledge of electricity should be decades ahead of our own.
The prospect of a generator was an easy example of how that could manifest, with examples from the anime and similar examples from the games about pokemon being used for labor.

Do you grasp the idea that being able to generate thousands of volts is, at a minimum, useful for research into electrical technology?

Lumiose Tower is a fictional one based on a real-world object exaggerated to fit the tone of the series, the same way most real-world animals can't breathe fire or make electricity from the cheeks but Pokémon based on them can. Becoming useful through reworking is on flavor for this fictional tower as well.

Even in-universe if the last legends game is anything to go by, Pokemon as regular companions to humans isn't a normal thing, much less used for labor. Why go through the hassle when you can just, I don't know, build an actual generator for the city

Also, just based on the fucking trailer. The city is meant to be a place of peaceful co-existance between humans and Pokemon. Using one for one-sided benfit isn't "co-existance" it's exploitation, and despite what memes would have you to believe, Pokemon goes out of its way to either not do that, or show why that's a bad thing

Who says you need thousands? Also whats the problem with using both natural and pokemon based methods to produce energy? They could have waterwheels set up through the cities rivers, and occasionally have a pokemon zap a generator in the main tower. Co-existing means working together, it doesnt mean jerk off and lay around all day sipping coffee with Pokemon. Everyone works together and does their part to keep the place running.

What, the one set at the end of all, starting a new one? Yeah he said he got fucked off needing to set it in AT, CT or DT, but that they kept the timeline, refounded Hyrule keeping the history of the land as happened (Master Sword with Fi still part of it) points to them wanting to break away from OoT. That they went and canonised Age of Calamity, which teels the story of the calamity in a different era to Breath indicated they don't mind split timelines, but they'd done all they had with the old ones. Those interviews were when they hadn't revealed were Breath sat and was more he doesn't make game decisions based on the timeline, rather decides where they go after he's finished making them.
They don't release 4 books on their series and its development history if they "don't give a fuck" and Aounuma was balls-deep in their production too.

It's called abstraction. The Lumiose city in X&Y was constrained by the hardware of the time and scope of the Kalos region. Legends Z-A focusing entirely on Lumiose will allow Game Freak to flesh out Lumiose city. Also the central river running through the city is visible even in X&Y's map as seen here >>55493158 running straight through the Magenta Plaza.

It's obvious that the game is about the founding and construction of Lumiose City. That's what all that 'Urban Development' stuff was about.

Your final goal in the game is BUILDING Prism Tower after constructing and populating the rest of the city with people and pokemon over the course of the game's story.

But the "Vision of coexistence between people and pokemon" thing is a cope of the highest caliber. Sure maybe, just feels like with all the other factors if it were in the past, they would be at the point further along of not completely terrified of pokemon like Hisui, but not 100% integrated like modern day. Was just food for thought.

But the buildings and clothing, I'm aware they're modern. The middle blueprint section is showing modern day, where everything is modern. It's bookmarked on both ends by the 19th century plans, showing the layout is still in planning stage. That middle part isn't known to them, thats for us, the viewer who is aware of what the city becomes. We played it.

LEGENDS is an artifact title now, it doesn't relate to anything regarding the setting's time period anymore. This is what usually happens when a vidya series goes on for a very long time or a spin-off gets too popular, the titles stop making sense.

Now about Z-A, it's apparent that we're seeing some kind of cyberization project going on with the virtual space imagery in the trailer and whatnot. Doesn't necessarily mean we'll be seeing a far future version of Kalos with previous characters appearing as aged version alongside their descendants. It will probably be just a more technologically inclined revision of Lumiose City, pretty much modern day stuff outside of the usual utopic pokemon world technology we're already used to seeing.

TL;DR: "Legends" doesn't necessarily mean "anything" as a title anymore, it's just the label we'll be seeing used to differentiate the mainline open-world action-oriented games from now on, since P:LA and Z-A are considered mainline. Z-A is going to be set in the present day, don't be autistic about it.

I'll concede this point, but only in regards to important characters. No random villager in Jubilife is wearing anything other than period-appropriate clothing, and no random NPC in Victorian PokeFrance would be wearing a baseball cap and sneakers.

Volo's people (The Celestica) were long gone by the time the Diamond and Pearl clan were call of Cthulu'd to Hisui. And the two clans way came before the Galaxy expedition team.

Everything that happened involving the player was the calm before the storm, of course they weren't going to show the harshest parts that were implied to inevitably happen to Hisui and any native culture in there after you were done taming everything for the settlers, just like with what happened in real life.

They weren't or at the very least they had 0 interactions with the clans. The clans wouldn't be fighting over the identity of "Almighty Sinnoh" if the Celestica people who know the identities of Dialga and Palkia were there. The Coronet highlands are in ruins because the Celestica people had long abandoned Hisui/Sinnoh for one reason or another.

We do it's called Celestic town, Cynthia and her Grandmother. Drasna's grandparents are proof that the celestica people migrated away from Hisui, came back, then left again. This isn't to say that real life japan didn't colonize the Ainu. But Nintendo wrote their story in such a way that it was relatively bloodless.
