Here's why I think it WON'T be Torchic

>Piplup and Snivy are must haves:
>Piplup is very much a shillmon even nowadays, it's been very shilled in gen 8 and its region just had a remake, it would be the perfect time to capitalize on the little penguin
>Snivy line is also very explicitly french and appears a lot in XY lore and carvings in the castle, he even appears in a painting
>Besides the earlier gens and its subsequent remakes, every single time we had a choice of starters there was at least 1 mammal, every single time, even in spin-offs, mammals are the more traditional, recognizable, and cutesy animal types
>the starter trio is a big part of the marketing, and obviously Torchic is popular, but even besides the bird thing he does look way too similar to Piplup, which is something that would preoccupy them
>There are other fire options that make sense with the game thematically, are popular (or shilled, whatever your opinion is), and would give marketing a more balanced trio in terms of design and popularity in different demographics
