It only gets hate because kids with ADD can't go concentrate for more than 3 minutes. The story is great, the characters are the best in the series, the dex is fantastic, and the region is top tier. It has its flaws like every Pokemon game but they are blown out of proportion by bitter genwarfags. Never forget that wherever you come from Alola will always be home.

While the cutscenes are horrible for replayibility, I didn't mind the story itself, probably my favorite game storywise

It's easily the most boring region which blows my mind. Hawaii is beautiful. There's so much to do and see, yet the Pokemon version is four hallways with cardboard cutouts. They should've held Alola off as the first open world game and made Paldea more traditional. A set of islands one fifth the size of Spain would be a much better place to start than a whole ass country.

Also UBs which are “legendaries” but not really like paradox mon. Regional Variants. Trials (now we have gyms that have trials) boss battles with totem mon which are basically alpha Pokémon and titan Pokémon. It was the first in a lot of things

I hated Gen 7 when it came out, especially USUM. But now I think they were the last decent games before the soulless trainwreck nu-era.

What? Basically every third version except USUM improves or doesn't meaningfully change the plot of their original games. The Emerald plot vs the Ruby/Sapphire plot is the biggest example of this.
