As goofy as >>55508441's statement is, I think there is actually some truth to it, the fact they didnt add any new megas in gen 7, or hell, decided they were going to add a new gimmick every generation in the first place, showed they wanted to ditch megas for whatever reason even if Gen 6 kinda acted like they were going to be a permanent new addition to the series like Fairy type.
So perhaps the pokedex entries making it seem like torture were supposed to scare kids away from them and make them think Z-moves were better with their more wholesome funny dances or something, to minimize backlash from outright removing the mechanic in the switch era.

It was pretty cool of SM to give Megas cool entries. Made them more interesting than "the power of friendship." They didn't give them separate entries in XY so they missed their chance.
