But it has a bit of a negative effect on something that berry spots in previous games actually improved: Giving you reasons to return to old routes.
This is something hoenn did very well with berry soil and secret bases, and Sinnoh also did okay, not having secret bases but still had some daily or random events to keep the routes fresh.
Gen 5+ all have an ever increasing issue of like "fight every trainer in the route, route now has no content and you have no reason to ever go back there" (especially in games with no trainer refights), which really has a negative impact on the overall feeling of the postgame / endgame loop.
I know this has nothing to do with the actual mechanics of the berry system itself, which was done better in XY, but its more the problem with having them in a centralized location (or no location at all like in later games), it drains the routes of persistent / repeatable content.
