How do you expect Game Freak to design the city?

Do you think that the areas will be larger and that the map seen from top is just a sketch?

I'm expecting 1 of 3 things.
1. Yakuza. Where there's tons of buildings but nothing you can do with them.
2. Crappy choppy boxes and maybe a pokemon centre. The only enterable buildings will be text menus.
3. Mostly parks and fields. Between bridges and blocks.

What, you mean the re-development plans? Of course it's going to be larger, the visualisation of it is likely an approximation of the scale of the in-game world. Will you fucking relax your kaks, it's barely been revealed 24 hours, you're already shitting yourself over the scope of it. If anything, focusin gon JUST Lumiose should tell you they're planning to make this as large as feasible, especially when you factor in the rest of the plot of the game, because like Arceus, this thing has one stated goal - compile the region's 1st pokédex/redevelop Lumiose urban area. But we all know along the way in Arceus we had to teach the settlers about the creatures of the region and eventually had to stop a looney with a sad from trying to break the world apart to cry to God about his sad, so I'm sure along the way to redeveloping Lumiose urban area for the city of the future, we're going to have some other looney with a goal to make himself the ruler of the region or some shit.

Assuming things like the bridge, the distance to the tower, and things like the models of humans and pokemon are close to what they'll be scaled to in the game, then one could probably get an estimate for how sprawling the city will be.
I'd expect something with roughly the footprint of two PLA areas, though obviously that wouldn't include any potential interior space or underground areas, which I think the game will need to heavily lean on in order to not feel like it's overly limited.
That does depend on how literally they're pushing the 'entirely within Lumiose' thing though. A few parks or gardens outside the walls and they'd easily be able to match PLA.

Yeah, depending on how much they lean on the re-development angle, that could also justify more space. Since then they'd have both the pre-construction and post-construction versions of an area to essentially squeeze more zones into the same geographical space.

It depends on if they have loading zones or not. If they try to do an entirely open world city, I don't see it being much larger than Mesagosa in SV. If they make separate instanced zones, they could actually make it pretty large.
