Gen 4 turned everything but the players into 3D models which is fine but for some might add a slight uncannyness to things, or otherwise the difficulty it added in making maps might have had some influence on how maps were made.
For me Gen 3 and 4 are basically equally comfy though, Gen 4's a little more easy on the eyes, since the GBA (original) screen was notoriously bad and led to all the games made for it going full neon with the colors to compensate (still fucked up how ugly Metroid fusion looks as a result).
