There is something that bugs me about Whitney's Miltank:

The water temple has a genuinely kinda easy to miss silver key that the remake made a lot easier to find. That's what led to so many getting stuck there.

Depends on which version of Whitney you're facing. Heracross is mid at best in gen 2, as it doesn't learn any fighting type moves that early.

In gen 4, Heracross is a good counter, but Miltank can still outspeed so there's a 30% chance that you could lose the 1v1 due to a flinch.

Additionally, you would need to have prior knowledge of Whitney's moveset and how to obtain a female heracross, which unless you're using a guide, you wouldn't have the first time you play through the game.

No, the trades (or even using female mons) to counter the bitchfilter boss anon. Normal gym = fighting counter (assuming you didn't just use a geodudette and throw her Def. Curl/Rollout strat back in her face) and they added a female fighting type trade in the very same city the gym was in.

Heracross is very rare, most people who complain are kiddies who use only Cyndaquil and can't deal with a mon that doesn't get one shot and hits for SE damage.
The truth is there are a large amount of ways to beat Whintey, but none of them are methods the aforementioned players would use.

Whitney's legacy is a testament to how little Pokemon players actually interact with the game, not a showcase of uber difficulty.
