Gen 2 Pokémon did show up in the anime and merch even then the focus was still mostly on Gen 1 Pokémon. Typhlosion literally didn’t show up in the anime at all for some reason. New Pokemon weren’t allowed to have the main focus until Gen 3 leaving Gen 2 as the hated middle child for the franchise, never getting the attention that Pokemon before and after get.
And even then, while other starters constantly show up in spinoffs (example Unite and Pokken) but not Gen 2. Obviously GenWun starters are always going to get things so comparing anything to those would be retarded, but Gen3 and 4 starters show up in stuff despite being nearly as old as Johto’s
Also, Ims pretty sure Johto starters have the least cards but don’t quote me o no that and I think Feraligatr recently got a card, which fits with them not hating Gatr like the other 2 Johto starters.
