Given Mew is the progenitor to all natural life he's literally correct, and that 10% would pretty only be extraterrestrial/interdimensonal Pokemon, those who existed before Mew could've (Creation Trio+Arceus), and artificial ones (Porygon line, Type:Null line, Magearna, etc.)

Currently 18.49% of all Pokemon aren't related to an evolution line. So he isn't that far off. And this was before they padded the dex with shit like Paradoxes and UBs which are almost all single stage.

If Oak can become a professor, then anyone can.

Also, "professor" is an academic title conferred to a teaching lecturer/tutor who had contributed significantly to the academic endeavor. The title is honorary and temporary, different from "Doctor" which is permanent. The title "Professor" can only be used as long as the person is still teaching. Once they are retired, they have to drop the professor title, but keep the "Doctor" title of they have it. Which means, all Pokemon professors are actively teaching in universities. But interestingly, NONE of them holds the title "Doctor", not even Samuel Oak who is often regarded as "the top Pokemon researcher in the world".

Not really. I know this retired Japanese lecturer who dropped the "Professor" title as soon as he retires, but keep his "Doctor" title. Previously I used to call him Professor Shibata. After he retired, I kept calling him "Professor" until he told me to drop the professor and start calling him Dr. Shibata instead.

Maybe because the japanese word "Hakase" means Doctor and/or Professor. So if you speak to a Japanese in Japanese, you may either call them Hakase or Sensei, which is not a problem if that person has a doctorate. But if you speak English with them, you have to use the proper term.
