Everyone dropped SS immediately, not many returned for IoA or CT, that was quite unprecedented
Dynamax killed PvP, fuck outside of shiny hunting in raids there weren't that many people 6 months in
People can ape on Megas all they want but they held player retention in the generations they existed as a mechanic, dynamax was such a cancer for normies and casual PvP players alike that numbers flatlined for Pokemon battle groups, SV didn't even scratch the same numbers so SS despite selling even more
Pokemon has gotten worse at player retention for online activities after ORAS with SM being the last good hype cycle with a healthy PvP scene
