Giovanni: Biggest load of bullshit. Doesn't even fight Giovanni, he just fights Jessie and James, and iirc he doesn't even defeat their pokemon, they just blast off and drop the badge and he picks it up.
Ironically despite how hated the Johto arc is, that was when the gym battles were actually serious and when Ash starting showing more creative strategies. (though the Johto arc had own sets of problem: constant meandering, blueballing everyone out of the GS ball, all around watered down tone, etc).
