Sure it's the type of "literally just an animal" that isn't supereffective against anything, but a lot of its members are super interesting. We have the demiurge, the first artificial pokemon, a pokemon based around branching evolutions, Ditto, a money generating cat, etc.
And for pokemon that aren't as obviously interesting, they usually have some hidden talent
