Hydreigon was a super powerful dragon from the previous gen, and it was QUAD weak to fairy, so it took the biggest brunt of the joke out of all the 'mons. And Sylveon was the flagship fairy type, so... you do the math.
It's funny that the pairing has lasted so long, though. I don't mind it, it's kinda cute. I like the juxtaposition.
